Hello, I am fully qualified and insured Clinical Hypnotherapist. My method is very Solution Focused with the emphasis on helping clients to find solutions to their problems and to move forward in a positive way without dwelling unnecessarily on the past. I trained at the Clifton Practice, one of the countries leading hypnotherapy training centres and obtained a DHP (Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy). I also gainded a HPD, (Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma) from the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) of which I am a member. (www.hypnotherapists.org.uk).

 


What is hypnosis?Hypnosis Image

Hypnosis (or trance) is a naturally occurring state of consciousness in which the mind’s focus is concentrated on a specific thing or thought. How many times have you been making a journey by car or walking and arrived at your destination not able to remember having got there? Or have been jolted back to reality by some one speaking to you and said “sorry, I was miles away”, You will have slipped into trance.

Contrary to popular belief it is not the same as being asleep, you, the client, will feel comfortable and relaxed, there is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling and you will be in control and aware of your surroundings at all times.

This makes it a very safe therapy, it is not possible to make anybody do or say something against their will.

How does Solution Focused Hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy is growing in popularity every day because it is a safe proven method of helping people overcome their problems and improve their lives.

It works so well because unlike many other forms of therapy, a hypnotherapist can work directly with the subconscious, the area of the mind which is so often the cause of our problems. When "in trance" it is possible to bypass the conscious mind and communicate directly with the subconscious mind. By working directly with the subconscious we can unlock the key to our problems and permanently change patterns of thought and behaviour in a beneficial way.

With Solution Focused Therapy the emphasis is very much on helping the client to resolve their problems, to help them change their perspective on particular aspects of their life allowing them to make positive changes. By encouraging clients to focus on their own inner resources, to work towards things being how they want them to be, solutions can be found that allow them to move forward in their lives in a positive and beneficial way.

This is a very modern form of therapy, which does not require lengthy analysis, or dwell un-necessarily on the past.

This method also incorporates Suggestion Therapy, which allows desired positive changes to be made by using the client’s increased sense of awareness and acceptance of positive suggestion. Altering the client's beliefs, or negative programming and replacing them with positive suggestions is highly effective in helping with fears, phobias and addictions.

Depression

Depression Image

Depression is becoming increasingly common in the western world and encompasses a wide range of symptoms. People suffering from depression may have some or all of these symptoms which include: a depressed mood (feeling sad or empty), loss of pleasure or interest, loss of energy, difficulty focusing, low self esteem, significant weight loss or gain, sleep problems, inability to concentrate, inappropriate thoughts of death.

It is widely accepted that negative thought is the root cause of depression. Hypnosis, combined with solution based therapy has proven to be extremely effective in helping with depression - by making positive changes we can help clients to escape from the shackles of negativity.

The emphasis is on helping you to understand how the mind works, why you feel the way you do and reducing anxiety through hypnosis. By helping you to deal with the causes, challenging your negative thought patterns, and helping you to rediscover how you want your life to be, we can work together to devise strategies to allow you to move forward in a positive way with hope and optimism.

I would normally expect to require 8 to 10 sessions for depression, however, each individual will differ.

Fears and Phobias

Fears and Phobias can be extremely debilitating, a fear of heights or enclosed spaces amongst many others, can have a negative effect on our every day lives.

Our minds can be re programmed to react to fear, or strong emotions generated when we encounter real danger by activating our flight or fight response - a reaction designed to ensure our survival in hostile environments. A phobia is created when our mind generates a similar emotional reaction to something that poses no rational treat or danger, activating the flight or fight response. These responses can be as a result of a traumatic experience, but can also be generated as a result of our thoughts. By reducing overall anxiety and desensitising the memory templates associated with the object of the phobia, which can be anything from the more common, such as spiders, enclosed spaces and flying to the unimaginably obscure, we can change the emotional response and therefore how the mind reacts.

By using hypnotherapy phobias can usually be dealt with in three to five sessions.

Anxiety and Stress:

Anxiety and Stress are equally as common as depression, and share a common cause in our negative thought patterns. In today’s society we all encounter a degree of stress, and providing the levels are not too high we can deal with it, however when the levels become too high we are not able to cope, causing reactions such as panic attacks, IBS, headaches, OCD, skin disorders, infertility, loss of confidence and self-esteem and much more. Anxiety is something that we can learn to control, by understanding how the mind works and changing the negative thought patterns, hypnotherapy can reduce the effects of anxiety considerably.

On average this requires 6 to 8 sessions.

Confidence, Low Self Esteem, Exam Nerves, Sports Performance etc:Thinking Lady Image

Lack of confidence and low self-esteem can very often be as a result anxiety or depression, which hypnotherapy can be very effective in relieving. Fear is often a factor - fear of failure or embarrassment can often trigger strong emotional reactions, similar to those of phobic responses. Using hypnotherapy we can change the thought patterns and emotional responses as well as reducing your overall level of anxiety allowing you to remain in control, we can then work towards creating greater motivation and focus.


On average this requires 3 to 6 sessions.

Many people turn to hypnotherapy to help give up smoking because everything else they have tried has failed, it is therefore testimony to the effectiveness of hypnotherapy that it is so successful, New Scientist states that ‘Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking’ (‘Cognitive reactions to smoking relapse’, Vol 135)

We are all aware of the effects of smoking on our health (try www.givingupsmoking.co.uk for more information) so why can it be so hard to give up? As most people consciously want to give up it is not hard to work out that it is the subconscious that promotes the need to smoke. For those who struggle to give up this battle between the conscious and subconscious minds argument is weighted in favour of the subconscious. Using hypnosis we can access the sub-conscious mind and tip the balance in favour of the conscious argument.

Providing that your conscious intent is that you 100% want to give up smoking the battle can be won, we cannot however magically make you a non smoker if you are not 100% committed to giving up.

Smoking sensation is one session lasting between 1˝ to 2 hours.
